IIG Public Update #15

November 2008

Things have slowed as many of our applicants have stopped responding to our e-mails. However, there is a disproportionate increase in membership, as proven by this photo:

SKEPTICAL PARANORMAL TALES

On October 22, we had an early Halloween party, as IIG members, and other CFI-LA'ers discussed the eerie sensations of paranormal events that all people have (even skeptics). A complete report will appear soon, either on this website, or perhaps in a well-known publication that features inquiries of a skeptical nature.

DANISH TELEPATH

The Kingdom of Denmark gave us Beowulf, Hamlet, the open-faced sandwich, and now they give us Connie S. who recently applied for the $50,000 paranormal challenge with her own challenge. She will determine the identity of ten strangers, by using a pendulum. Obviously, we need to work the details out a little bit.

Connie is sending us a video disc of her performing the feat. We will evaluate it, and suggest a protocol for her to be tested.

CHICAGO REMOTE VIEWER

The windy city has blown Peter C. our way. He claims to be able to send thoughts to another person. More to come.

THE REAL DAVID RICHARDS

Normally, we don't advertise the more outlandish e-mails we get, but we thought that this one deserved some attention. It arrived a few months after IIG member David Richards signed his name to a terrific report on UFO proponent Steven Greer.

David Richards apparently is a disinformation specialist from Washington D,C, [sic].
Affidavits are powerfully important in UFO-ology and Dr, [sic] Steven Greer is "one hundred percent" correct!

Roswell was a "real" crash retrieval case.

The UFO community will turn the tables on the former so called sceptics and debunkers actually called: D E N I E R S and L I E R S [sic].

It is interesting to note that the quotes around their use of the word "real" are copied verbatim. Using the standard interpretation of scare quotes, this would mean that they are denying the reality of the Roswell crash.

David responded to this correspondent, informing him that he has never even been in Washington D.C. and questioning this baseless assertion. The response also included some tips on how we distinguish scientific facts and reality from religious faith. Roswell has been investigated so thoroughly there seemed little need to discuss it further, the person was directed to articles on the subject. The response concluded by welcoming physical evidence that would substantiate the claims of Steven Greer.

Oh, and Dave is ineligible for the $50,000.

BROWNE OUT

On November 16th, the "psychic" Sylvia Browne was scheduled to make an appearance at L.A.'s classic Orpheum Theatre. We were already to go out there and hand out flyers like we did last time, but her performance has been postponed. A victory for the forces of skepticism?  Not quite - she'll be back early in 2009.  While you wait for that report, check out the newly posted account of our protest in November of 2006.

THAT'S ALL FOR NOW

Enjoy Thanksgiving, Veteran's Day, Peanut Butter Lover's Month, Mark Twain's Birthday and Election Day.
